Application Instructions
A Step by Step Guide to Applying your Decal
The following guide is a basic set of instructions in fitting small/medium sized transferable vinyl decals. If you are unsure on the surface you are sticking to, please refer to our Suitable Surfaces guide for more information. We provide a free decal with every order, so feel free to use this as a tester before applying the main decal!
Step 1
Clean the surface thoroughly with soap and water and allow it to dry completely. Do not use a glass cleaner as it may prevent the sticker from adhering properly. A clean surface is extremely important to ensure the vinyl will stick properly, and last a long time! Rubbing alcohol is advised.
Step 2
Prepare the sticker for application by rubbing a credit card firmly across the sticker through the clear transfer layer. This ensures the sticker will cling to the transfer tape properly.
Step 3
Lay the sticker face down (design side down) on a flat surface and carefully peel the paper backing away from the sticker. If the sticker clings to the backing, replace the paper backing and repeat Step 2.
Step 4
Position the sticker onto your chosen surface and rub down firmly in place with a credit card.
Step 5
Slowly peel the clear transfer layer away at an angle. Take extra care not to pull the sticker off the surface. If the sticker pulls away from the surface repeat Step 4. If it doesn’t stick at all, please refer to our list of suitable surfaces for more information.
Step 6
Take a photo of your shiny new decal and share it on Facebook or Instagram using #darkmoongraphics or #darkmoondecals (optional yet very much appreciated!)
Additional Tips for Best Results
Temperature and Weather Conditions
Be sure to apply the decal in normal temperature conditions. Extreme hot or cold temperatures can affect the adhesion of vinyl. Do not apply in the rain! If any droplets of water are left behind the decal, it will not adhere properly.
Storing Decals Before Fitting
If you are storing decals to fit at a later date, it is important to keep them flat or in a 3″ diameter roll for larger decals. Rolled decals must be stored upright, not flat. Never fold the decals, as it will cause the vinyl to crease and become unusable.
Taking Your Time
Don’t rush! Take your time applying the decal to ensure you get a nice, smooth finish. When squeegeeing/rubbing down the decal, be firm and don’t go too fast, or you will end up with air bubbles.
Air Bubbles
Small air bubbles can be removed by puncturing them with a pin. After doing this, gently rub the decal towards the pin hole to release the trapped air.
